Pretzel Baking

  • The Long Island Farm Bureau’s Project Food, Land People - “Breads from Around the World” and’s recipe of “Bread With a Twist - Soft Pretzels”, inspired an in-school pretzel baking activity. The enriched whole wheat flour gifted by the Fairview Farm visit earlier in the month provided 6th grade students with a hands-on activity using local ingredients. In cooperative groups students shared tasks and duties, read directions, measured ingredients, timed the rise, kneaded dough and formed individual pretzel knots. Groups were responsible for problem solving and strategizing within their groups to ensure a successful outcome. Knot kidding, they were delicious!
