Suffolk County Community College Culinary Arts Center

  • Ms. Satoko Matthews, the community liaison to the SCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Center, toured the 6th grade students through the Riverhead facility. Satoko welcomed students to the Cooking Demonstration Theater (equipped with an overhead camera so that the students could see all of the action), where she demonstrated various cooking techniques to prepare her recipe of vegan macaroni and cheese. The students sampled her nutritional yeast sauce, plated/served their classmates individual portions, and each student was able to have a taste. The tour continued through the commercial cooking and baking kitchens, and ended in the Baker’s Workshop, which had an assortment of delicious desserts, cookies, and pastries. Satoko couldn’t have been any sweeter!
