• 6th Grade Description

The sixth grade enrichment project gave students the opportunity to explore ancient civilizations in an in-depth way. This multi-faceted exploration included learning about animation and writing historical fiction. The students experienced a guided tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which included a selection of art works from Ancient Egypt, Rome, Greece and Mesopotamia.

Students explored hands-on activities at stations which included claywork hieroglyphics, toga wrapping, Chinese brush painting and paper folding, architecture with block and Lego building, reading, storytelling, illustrating and animation. Also, students worked together collaboratively for a one-day camp intensive to get an immersive look at stop-motion animation storytelling. Through a university partnership, students learned how to use Minecraft software, promoting problem solving and creating an imaginative environment. The program was designed to focus on students' interests and sixth grade curriculum.
